February Happenings

February was one of those months... We were coming and going to kids' events nonstop.  Here are some highlights:

Tyler wrestled the first two weekends in order to qualify to go to State.  Mat Classic state competition was held in the Tacoma Dome on the 19th and 20th.  Ty made it all the way, which was amazing because he did it against the physical therapist's recommendations and with torn ligaments in his left arm.  He was taped from stem to stern, and every match was painful for him, and painful for us! 

We were so impressed with Tyler's drive, dedication, and ability to dig deep in order to reach his goal.  He didn't place in the state tournament, which really disappointing because Ty was having a fantastic season prior to his injury.  The outcome would have been much, much better if Ty had had 2 good arms!  Tyler is looking forward to his Senior year next year, and is already planning the training that will take place between now and then.

Sierra celebrated her 15th birthday on the 18th.  She was visited by Grandma and Grandpa Carlyle, who were here all week, and Grandma Judie and George.  Against her will, we had cake and ice cream. I must have chosen the right kinds, because she let me take a couple of pictures of her.  That NEVER happens!!  So stunned was I, that it didn't even cross my mind to get pictures of her with her grandparents.  I just wasn't prepared for cooperation! 

Sierra also made the Varisty soccer team at her school.  She has been playing as a defender and really likes it.  She had two games the week her grandaparents were here, and we were blessed with beautiful weather.  It was great!

Ashley had a busy February as well.  She's been learning to play basketball on our ward's team.  It's been fun to watch her.  She also auditioned for the talent show at school.  She'll be singing one number and acting as one of the emcees for the evening.  Ashley loves to be on stage, so this will be fun for her.

Caleb competed in the science fair at school for the first time, and his project won the Honorable Mention award.  Caleb was disappointed, because he wanted to make it to the District competition.  Honorable Mention means he was close, but didn't quite make it. There were 4 of these kids at his school, and they were designated alternates in case one or more of the qualifiers didn't choose to go on to the District level.  We just found out Thursday, that Caleb got in.  He is so excited.  Congratulations, Caleb!!  His project studied static electricy.  Lots of balloon rubbing on heads at our house!
