So- Tyler finally consented to attending the LDS Prom. He was not thrilled(complained until the moment he left the house) but it made his date (Shannon McC) happy, and I think that was the point...
Tyler wanted to ask Shannon creatively, so he bought a huge bag of fortune cookies at Cash & Carry, and replaced 9 of the fortunes with the words, "Will you go to LDS Prom with me? Tyler" Shannon had to open all of the cookies to create her message. Piqued that she had to open all of those cookies, Shannon responded with many little boxes- individually wrapped in cute, bright colored, patterned, wrapping paper. The last one contained the word: Yes.
May 7th, 2010 was the big day. Ty and his date went with a group of other LDS kids. I think they had about 16 kids in all. They had dinner at our Stake Center, went to Sumner for the dance, and then to Shannon's house for food, games, etc. after the dance. They had a great time. (Even Tyler!)
For those who aren't familiar with how this goes around here- the 5 surrounding Stakes put on this event as a cooperative effort. The Stakes rotate responsibility for the decoration of each building, the dinner, dance, pictures, registration, etc., but the locations are always the same. The Stakes go all out for this event. This is the 2nd time I've been involved, and let me just say-- it's a TON of work, but so wonderful when it all comes together. This year we turned our building into Central Park~ Complete with a dropped ceiling, starry skies, many borrowed plants form a local nursery, a fountain, numerous park benches, and beautiful table settings. It was great! We spent the day on Thursday, and some time on Friday making it happen. (Kudos to those who were in charge. They did a fantastic job.) Graham Stake did the food at our building. The kids ate grilled chicken/fettucine alfredo, salads, cheesecake etc. Yum! Ty said that might have been the best part of the night.

I know this will sound crazy, but I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around that fact that he is old enough to date. :) Sounds like they had fun. What a cute girl Shannon is!
